Celebration Weekend

It was a really good weekend in Flagstaff. I was surprised due to my own case of "preghead" (frequently missing or forgetting important information) to find that our 120 day celebration was a Gurdwara (Sikh devotional service)that my in-laws set up in their home for the occasion. I really had been wanting to acknowledge this baby in a Gurdwara setting but it felt complicated to arrange that here in Phoenix. It was a delight to find my in-laws had created that for us in their home and it felt so good to be there. I really appreciate that they did that and invited their local community to celebrate with us.

Sunday brought another celebration: the wedding of our dear friends, Nirmal and Rai Singh. They got married in an aspen grove in Flagstaff and it was a very sweet event.

Week 17

Here we are at Week 17: Satvinder likes to talk to the baby, with her face smushed against my belly, much like she is doing in this picture. She is already telling "secret" things that are only for the baby's ears...for example, she likes to tell on her parents, when she thinks we are being unfair. She's already setting up the sibling alliance.

Feeling kicks is super fun - soft, sweeping moves that make me smile.

And one day this week I felt GOOD. I woke up with energy and didn't feel nauseated much. It only lasted the morning but it was REALLY awesome. I'd forgotten what that was like and it was a wonderful treat.

This weekend, we will go to Flagstaff (cooling off - YES!) and there will be a party for celebrating our 120 days of pregnancy. In yogic philosophy it is considered to the be time when the child's soul enters its body in the womb. It is a time to honor the mother and the family for receiving and carrying the soul, and for welcoming the soul.

This will be our Flagstaff celebration and then there will be another in Phoenix in July. This baby is and will be WELL celebrated and I love that. That's another thing that makes me smile.

16 Weeks Pregnant: I felt a kick for the first time today! Little wiggly cutie cuteness!

It's funny that I wondered if Satvinder was tuning in to much of what was being said at my midwifery appointment. That question is getting repeatedly answered as Satvinder reminds me throughout the day:

"Matajeeeeee, Pam said you need to eat more foooood! Are you eating more food? Pam said!"

Yep. Pam said. And I won't be forgetting it. haha.

15 Weeks

15 Weeks Pregnant today: Satvinder and I had a midwife visit and enjoyed hearing the heartbeat again. Hearing that sound just makes me giddy and excited for the whole rest of the day.

I'd like for Satvinder to attend appointments with me as much as possible so that she can experience midwifery care and see what goes on. She mostly plays with the many toys that are in the office but I think she's picking things up on other levels too.

I'm really ready for the "honeymoon" time of the second trimester to kick in. Energy, feeling good, the departure of the demon nausea....um, where is that part? It's not here quite yet. None-the-less, I am feeling pretty smiley after hearing that beating heart today. And for the little body that beats that heart, the rest of it is so very worth it.

This week at the Khalsa house...

Satvinder is a reading fiend - especially when there is a contest involved. The other day we went to the library and she signed up for a book reading challenge - read 35 books and win prizes. When we got home, she got after it with total determination - and read all 35 books that day.
Tempe Splash Park: It's free, it's for kids, it's water. Plus shaded sitting areas! All good things for a Phoenix summer.

Peter Pan and Puppets

School is out and we are on the search for budget-friendly, desert-living, kid activities. Today we had our first experience with the Great Arizona Puppet Theater. They were showing the first of a trilogy of Peter Pan shows. It was cute and Satvinder dug it - though she was a little shy and hesitant about one-on-one interactions with the puppets. Still managed to get some pics, of course!

Tooth Drama & more

Last weekend Satvinder lost her first tooth. Well, more like knocked it out of her head unexpectedly.

A simple dive into bed turned into quite the drama - causing pain for 24 hours until the assaulted tooth removed itself. Upon the losing of the tooth (which happened while in Flagstaff, during her Dadaji's birthday party) Satvinder fainted. And then there was lots of other weird, concerning behaviors that ultimately led to a visit to the Flagstaff ER.

In the end, all was well. Satvinder got back to normal. Back to doing math problems for fun (multiplication, no less!) Back to asking amusing questions like "Mataji, why is your butt so GIANT?" Our girl. Minus one tooth.
